Introduction
Loss is a common life experience. The internal response to experienced loss is grief. End of life can be a very stressful time for clients and for family members. Nurses may be asked to assist with physical, spiritual and psychosocial needs of the client and family during loss, grief and dying. Upon completion of this module, you will be able to:
- Identify anticipated responses to grief and loss across the life span (C.O. #6)
- Identify grief and loss resources (C.O.#6 and #8)
- Identify ethical / legal considerations related to end-of-life decisions (C.O. #4)
- Identify the nursing responsibilities associated with end-of-life and postmortem care (C.O. #4)
- Contribute to a plan of care to support client (individual, family, or group) through grief and loss (C.O. #4)
- Demonstrate respect for the cultural and spiritual beliefs of the client and family members experiencing grief and loss (C.O. #4 and #6)
To achieve these objectives:
- Read the Module 16 Introduction.
- Read Chapter 17 in Textbook Introduction to Practical Nursing.
- Complete assigned quiz.
