    Introduction

    Sleep and rest are vital to good health and well-being. In this section the role of the nurse in assessing and promoting sleep and rest for clients in all health care settings will be addressed. Adequate sleep practices are helpful in maintaining mental focus, clear judgement, weight management, overall health and mental wellbeing.

    Upon completion of this module, you will be able to:

    1. Define the concepts of sleep and rest and explain their importance of maintaining health and well-being C.O. #8
    2. Describe the stages of the sleep cycle, including non-rapid eye movement (NREM) and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep C.O. #8
    3. Identify factors that influence sleep quality, including physiological, environmental, and psychological components C.O. #6 and #8
    4. Recognize common sleep disorders and disturbances, such as insomnia, sleep apnea, and restless leg syndrome C.O. #8
    5. Develop individualized care plans to promote optimal sleep and rest for patients in various healthcare settings C.O. #8
    6. Educate patient and families on strategies to improve sleep habits and manage sleep disorders effectively C.O. #8
    7. Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions aimed at improving sleep and make necessary adjustments to care plans C.O. #8

    To achieve these objectives: 

    1. Read the Module #18 Introduction. 
    2. Read Chapter 12 in Textbook Introduction to Practical Nursing. 
    3. Complete the quiz. The quiz cannot be reopened, and all questions must be answered in one attempt. This is an independent assignment. Students will not be able to use any resources during this assignment. Please review academic dishonesty policy.
