In a post below, respond to the following prompt, which assesses course learning outcome #1 "Describe the fundamental cellular and biochemical characteristics of various microbes including viruses, bacteria, archaea, and eukaryotes." And module learning outcome "Identify and describe different categories of microbes with specific growth requirements other than oxygen, pH, and temperature, such as altered barometric pressure, osmotic pressure, humidity, and light."
Prompt: Chemicals Used to Clean

Find ONE chemical in your house you use to clean with.
(Make sure the cleaner's name is the first line of your post.)
Note: Clorox, Lysol, Mr. Clean, Pine-Sol are all brand names of cleaners. Be very specific when naming the cleaner.
(Examples: Both of these products are made by Lysol, but each has different active ingredients: Lysol with OXI action bathroom cleaner, Lysol All-purpose cleaner Lemon breeze scent)

- (1pt) Read all the labeling on the item. Write at least one thing you didn’t know before reading the label or something you found interesting.
- (2pts) Determine which of the following categories the chemical would be assigned make sure to explain your choice using the information below.
IF there is no active ingredient, answer this question instead. What is the difference between cleaning and disinfecting?
- Sterilant = Destroy all microorganisms, and viruses.
- High-level disinfectants=Destroy viruses and vegetative cells (actively growing cell bacteria, protozoa, fungi), Not endospores & cysts
- Intermediate-level disinfectants=Kill vegetative cells fungi, most viruses, Not endospores, not all naked viruses.
- Low-level disinfectants=Removes fungi, vegetative bacteria and enveloped viruses, Not mycobacteria, naked viruses or endospores
