Nursing practice covers a broad continuum, including health promotion, disease prevention, coordination of care, and palliative care when cure is not possible. Nurses directly affect client care and provide the majority of client assessments, evaluations, and care in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, schools, workplaces, and ambulatory settings. Upon completion of this module, you will be able to:- Distinguish among the different levels of nursing education (Course Outcome #3)
- Specify the ethical and legal boundaries of the student nurse as presented in the Code of Ethics and the Nurse Practice Act (Course Outcome #1, 11)
- Detail responsibility for maintaining client confidentiality (Course Outcome #4)
- Describe the contribution of all members of the health care team (Course Outcome #7)
- Identify the role of evidence-based practice in nursing (Course Outcome #1)
- Identify the concept of quality in client care (Course Outcome #3)
- Discuss nursing scope of practice and standards of care (Course Outcome #2)
- Compare various settings in which nurses work (Course Outcome #3, 10)
- Outline professional nursing organizations (Course Outcome #1, 10)
To achieve these objectives:
- Read the Module 1 Introduction
- Read Chapter #1, Scope of Practice, in the textbook, Introduction to Practical Nursing.
- Complete the Module 1 Discussion Forum activity.
